Blue Branching Out

Blue Branching Out

October 05, 2005

This is my second Branching Out scarf this year! On this one I used 5mm needles and 2 balls of Jo Sharp Silkroad DK Tweed in colour 404 "Boheme".  It's a greyish blue with tan and burgundy flecks in it.

I have to say that this yarn:
1. Isn't terribly soft.  It's not bad, but it's not what I would call luxuriously soft.
2. Has a musty odour that hasn't come out after one soak in Eucalan.   It's not entirely unpleasant and it reminds me of some raw silk and wool yarn I've used in the past, but I can see that it might bother some people, especially if you cover your nose with the scarf on a cold day.   Time will tell if it goes away.
3.  Is still very beautiful.  I love tweeds. It blocked well.

So, I used 5mms (US8) and ended up with a scarf that was about 7" wide and 6 foot 7 inches long (just over 2m).  A nice long scarf, very wrappable.  I continue to enjoy knitting this pattern and wouldn't say no to a third.
