Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf

Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf

Completed July 7, 2004

Karen Baumer's Multidrectional Diagonal Scarf pattern with alternate ending

I knit this scarf with Fleece Artist Silk & Wool, a slubby sort of hand painted, variegated yarn, 41 sts wide on 4mm needles. I fell in love with the yarn and thought it would be perfect for my Missoni-loving aunt in Austria. It proved difficult to find a pattern that looked good with the small variegations and raw texture of the yarn, but the MDS did the trick!

Approximately 63 1/2" long x 6 1/2" wide - light and airy at these dimensions. Could block it smaller for a denser scarf. (Is denser even a word??!!)

This is a cool pattern. It looks quite impressive for being so easy. The one thing that drove me batty was how quickly the first 3/4 of the triangle goes, and then when you think you're practically finished the last few rows take f o r e v e r. I like patterns that are broken into modules like this one (the triangles) because you get small feelings of accomplishment as you finish each section.
