Have cast on for the baby dress from Debbie Bliss's Baby Knits for Beginners and am now pondering whether I really to knit a project of this magnitude. 202 stitches is a horrible lot and this project isn't going to grow at a rapid pace.
I admit that I'm a sucker for small projects that are easy to complete. I'm not a fast knitter and I don't get a lot of uninterrupted time to knit. This dress is baby sized, true, but it's also on smallish needles and because I've chosen to do it in the round, it starts off with an awful lot of stitches! I'm lucky to find enough time to finish even one round at a go.
I'm also not sure about my yarn choice. I picked the extremely vivid Happy Days colourway of Patons Look At Me and am wondering if it will end up looking cute, or obnoxiously bright.
Add to that the fact that it needs US size 5 needles and my Denise ones in that size are difficult to work with (the cable is as thick as the needles so the yarn tends to grab), and I'm just a big ol' vessel of doubt.
I think I will see if I have some regular 4mm circulars (not Denise) and switch to those. That might speed things up enough to start making some progress. I just need to get my momentum up. A deadline will help too, and if it starts looking good (i.e. not obnoxious) once I have a couple of inches done I will deem it my niece's christening gift and need to have it done by the end of the month.
There! A plan of action! Now I can get to work...
The only other thing I have on the needles right now is the multidirectional diagonal scarf for my aunt in Austria. It's looking good. Those triangles start so quickly but then bog down over the last few long rows, it can get tiring finishing each one. Still, it is nice having the project broken down into sections like that. Gives a feeling of accomplishment when each is completed, even if the scarf needs to be oodles longer.
